  • Original CS Bowie/ Short Sword

    All,

I purchased this knife/sword at the estate sale of the curator of the Smithsonian.

I am at a loss to document it, and am looking for advice.

It is a very large heavy weapon, marked on one side

    Macon Geo

    And on the other

    CSN

I have attached pictures.... trying to get my mind around this one....I put a quater beside it for comparison

Thanks for all the help, I picked up a bunch of stuff there...from Rev War, 1812 and CW....

    Pards,

It resembles an Arkansa Toothpick to me, but slightly different, maybe the Georgia version. Very cool blade.

Chris: Send a picture to Lee Hadaway. georgiabowie@msn.com

He likes to see different knives and doesn't mind telling you what he thinks. He also wrote a book on CS bowies you can see on http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/j_mayo/index.html

Good Luck! Let us know what comes of it. I have another contact on Naval stuff if you need it.

        Jim,

Thanks and I sent him a picture...clueless whether meant as a knife or naval short sword.

Lee's book is an excellent resource for anyone who owns a Bowie knife. I have two and have learned a lot from his book.

Make sure it wasn't stolen from the Smithsonian.
