    Will,

Thanks for posting this. "Shot Pouch" Walker's command is of particular interest to us Georgians, especially when his division was sent to Bragg before Chickamuaga to the Battle of Atlanta.

      Herb,

This division had an interesting 1863. Gist's and Wilson's Brigades had been sent from the Atlantic Coast to Mississippi during Joe Johnson's abortive attempt to save Vicksburg. There they were put in a division with Gregg's Tennesseans who had fought at Raymond and Ector's Texas Brigade from Bragg's Army. The Jackson Campaign was much harder than many people realize, lots of skirmishing and entrenching in the middle of a hot, humid, Mississippi summer. When Walkers Division was ordered to Bragg, Greggs Brigade was detached to the provisional division before Chickamauga, never to return. After Chickamauga, Ector's Texans were sent back to Mississippi to bolster the defenses there, replaced by a brigade of Tennesseans from Cheatham's old division.
