  • Tait Size Markings Info Sought

I have come up empty while searching for the following information:

    1. The size, spacing, and stipulated stencil location of the stenciled numbers used in the British size marking system for jackets prior to World War I (for our period of interest: Tait jackets).

If anyone can recommend a source on where to look for this specific information, please PM me.

    Thank you for your consideration.

If you have not already, pick up Fred Adolphus's book. It is an awesome reference. It is titled Imported Confederate Uniforms of Peter Tait & Co. Limerick, Ireland. On page 15, Les Jensen provided a photo of a typical black ink stamp showing the size. There is also a stamp sizing table for the know existing Tait jackets with stamps.

The sizing is stamped like this inside:
          5-10
          43-38
          SIZE No. 2
          L

Translated this means the jacket was made for someone 5'10" tall with a 43" chest and 38" waist. I have emailed Fred in the past regarding questions on all things Tait and he has helped. Hope this helps you out.
