I always read your posts . Thanks for sharing. Did you happen to see any listing of the 49th Tenn? They were with Walthall during the Franklin Campaign in 64.
Again thanks for posting this information.

          Dave,

No pics yet, I'm working on it....:) But one thing I do notice is that the whole 30th Mississippi has "Waist Belt Plates", that would men that they wouldn't have things like frame or roller buckles because those tended to be just listed as "Waist Belts" with no separate plate listed.

          Jerry,

Thanks man, I try to get good info out there that people would be interested in. The 49th TN wasn't in this brigade, they were in the Division of Polk's Corp that Walthall took over in 1864. I'll probably get around there eventually...

I don't know. Wall tents in November, 1862, is a lot like having Sibleys in April, 1862. A bunch of wall tents filled to capacity with soldiers during the cooler months isn't a bad thing. The noise level caused by belching, farting, snoring, complaining and the like is something to be experienced. I just don't want to see a wall occupied solely by Captain Fantastic at the head of his company street during the warmer months.

                Robert,

Yeah the cal .70 & .75 stuff is very interesting. I think we should see alot more of those in the ranks, I know the troops who garrisoned Vicksburg early on in '62 seem to have alot of them as well.

Ok, now for the 24th Mississippi Infantry:

                CSR of Col. W. Down

Received at Corinth MS, April 13th 1862

                40000 Enfield Rifle Cartridges.

This confirms that the 24th Mississippi did indeed get a shipment of Enfields in November of 1861, there is a passing mention of it in the OR's but I wasn't completely sure. Now I am. They probably got a full set of Accouterments to go with them, but I'm not sure about English Knapsacks.

                  Will,

We need to lobby the gun makers to put out some repros of those odd and obsolete British muskets! I know some .70 rounds have been found around Grenada.

                    Dave,

I think Loyalist Arms has a copy of the smoothbore cal .75 Tower musket. I've heard mixed reviews about their Indian made muskets, ranging from horrible to good. I know most people think of their Lornez when they hear the name.
