  • Original Sibley Tent?

    Gents,
Are there any original Sibley tents known to exist; and if so, where? I would like a little more detailed information than Sibley's patent of 1856 provides.

Shiloh National Battlefield Park has one in their collections.
Here is a video where stacey Allan describes and shows it off: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/305480-1

Well he doesn't give to much information on the Sibley to really help you out with anything, but interesting to know that only two are known to have survived. Thanks for sharing Mark, what a great little video. I got to talk with Mr. Allen at the Paddle Boat adventure this year, real great guy. If you are trying to make a reproduction, I'm sure he would give you some more information on it if you tried to contact him, always worth a try. How awesome would it be to spend the day in that storage room, going through all those artifacts. The park seems to have more in storage than on they have on display.

        Thanks Mark,
I took a shot in the dark by asking this forum and you delivered! For those wanting to skip directly to the Sibly tent portion, it starts around the 23 minute, 24 second mark.

One of two surviving original Sibley Tents. This one is in the collection of the Shiloh NPS, but was recently on display @ The Smithsonian, exhibit now taken down: http://americanhistory.si.edu/changi...3/emancipation
