  • Interesting Description of a Confederate Haverack

While doing some research recently, I found this interesting description of a Confederate haversack in the Tri Weekly Citizen, Canton, Mississippi, December 12, 1863:

"Lost this day, in Canton, between 1 and 2 o'clock P.M., a new black enameled cloth haversack; black tape shoulder strap, one inch wide, and flap bound green. It had a piece of black leather inside, and belongs to S.L. Mosby. The finder will please return it to him, or to the undersigned.
    A.M. Gurley."
    J. Thomas Giambrone, Esq.

That is interesting. I would assume it belonged to an officer.

There is a Samuel Mosby who was the Ordnance Sgt. of the 2nd Missouri Cavalry which was stationed not too far from the area where the haversack was lost.
