Of the folks who have been lucky enough to examine original hardtack boxes, I have a few questions. What is the thickness of the top/bottom boards and are the ends thicker? In the case of two boards covering the top or bottom, are they tongue & grooved? Do the lids really have two cleats or boards on the inside? I'm curious about the reproductions out there as there seems to be a few things that do not match commissary department regulations on paper. So are the originals we have left to examine that different? I realize that often contract results did not reflect what was described in the contract; I am just wondering if what we are being offered reflects the artifacts.
