Why did artillery use small and large grain powder? Is it for different sized projectiles?

        Michael,

Bore size and tube type (parrott vs napoleon, for example) had more to do with this need than anything else.

          Will,

Do you know what type of 69 caliber musket they would have been producing? I know that Georgia rifles in 58 caliber were produced at the armory in Milledgeville but I didn't realize that 69 caliber muskets were produced as well. Have you run across any reports from the Augusta armory/arsenal in your research? Thanks for the great info!

My favorite part is listing what went where.

2000lbs cannon powder used out at the laboratory in a week?

Spanish moss blankets for you cavalry guys.

Whoops, remind me not to do this after coming from from working overnight. Forget the .69.
