Can anyone weigh-in on when Non Regulation Steel Hilt/Wallenscheid, Solingen bladed swords were first available for commercial purchase during the Civil War?
- Are they strictly late-war (I see they were offered in the 1864 SH&G catalog)?
- The non reg hilt's with U.S. under the eagle, where these marketed as Staff/Field swords?
- Also, is it fair to say that the aforementioned were the "economy line" of commercially purchased swords during the Civil War?
- Were these swords nickle plated or just bare steel?
Many thanks, Bob
