  • Magee and George Originals??

    Hello all,
This question relates to Magee and George of New Orleans? I have seen that MBS sells them and Jarnagin as well. They are both different styles. I have not seen a photo of an original just the repro's. I have seen all of the documentation on Serio's site and have seen some stuff through my Fold3.com account as well as Goods dealers and makers. I want to be able to make an honest assessment on what is and what is not authentic as far as the cartridge boxes and cap pouches are related to this firm. If any of you with personal access Photo's documentation etc. I would greatly appreciate it. I have also done many internet searches and have come up Winchester. Thanks!

    Josiah,

Hope this helps. I have held and traced the 2 original cap pouches we have at Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans. One is a fragment and it was hand carried years ago to Dale Jarnagin to make a copy of. So I can vouch for the cap pouch. Also, Vicksburg NBP has an original catridge box flap in the Cairo collection. From looking at it and the repops they both appear correct. Only issue with the original is the Magee & George was stamped up-side-down. I guess so that the soldier can always read who made his box.
