Canvas cartridge box belt conversion Idea

Feel free to move this to where you see appropriate.

I have a correct oilcloth canvas cartridge box sling sling however I ended up getting two if the same. I have an idea of converting one to a waist belt. I'm curious what you gentleman might suggest to turn into a buckle.

Please shoot me ideas, Mine included using an old knapsack buckles.

John- This hit a chord with me. Sometimes I get the same idea to use used or duplicate gear for another period-correct purpose. Moved this thread to Authenticity Discussion in order that you can find someone that might gve you a period-correct way to make use of your items in another way (as was done by soldiers of back then). John, Thanks for the move wasn't sure were to put this post,

I was just browsing thinking of what kinda items I could use, knapsack buckle, or even a just sewing a few button holes into it and using some buttons to hold it together. If anyone else as any ideas please shoot them my way its greatly appreciated.

I assume your cartridge box strap has leather ends. Keep your leather cartridge box end on one end of the strap. Size the strap to your waist, cut strap and sew the other leather strap to the canvas. Use a knapsack hook to fasten the belt. See picture for a Union oddity. There are probably other ways to fabricate a belt from a strap but this is one.
