  • Artillery Pioneer Impression

I'm looking to portray a pioneer who part of the artillery. Would just red insignia on a shell jacket and an axe work? Or would this impression require a bit more? I've been searching for a while and nothing is turning up.

Also, I found this picture of a heavy artillery pioneer and I noticed that he has a rifle. Would a light artillery pioneer also need one? Would a pistol suffice? Or nothing at all?

    Thanks,

Kyle, Take a look at the outstanding article for the Liberty Rifles website. I think you'll get some good starting information.

Thank you, that article answered my questions.

However, I read that they kept their tools in wagons while on march. Would that be the case during battle? or would they take a tool or two with them, like a hammer or hatchet, just in case?

Kyle, I'm not the greatest with ACW Artillery Q and A. So, I'd go to the United States Artillery regulations for that. Mr. Mark Tackitt's Page o' Period Manuals will more than likely have the answer: http://www.zipcon.net/~silas/links.htm

Have fun, and read as much as you can!
