Well I have finally figured out where many of the wartime military forts, stables, corrals, and other various establishments were located as transcribed from an 1865 military map and a modern map. I still haven't figured out where the bulk of the QM and ordnance depots were located, (they oddly weren't listed on the map) but hope to figure it out in the future. In the next couple of days I will start posting the 20 something areas that I have found, the period location with era place names, and the modern street or place names. Unfortunately most are under layers of cement or asphalt, and many are in not so safe areas now. At least 2 were located, at least partially, where cemetarys now stand, so in a since they still exist somewhat undisturbed, but forever cut off for any hope of restoration.

How far out from Louisville does your map go? Does it include the Salt River and Bacon Creek area? Also-does it include the L & N Turnpike or Railroad line?Matthew Rector -

Matthew, unfortunately it is only of Louisville, and the seperate towns that are now considered as being "Old Louisville". It only goes as far south as a little below where UofL now stands. It does show some of the L&N line, and the Louisvile & Nashville Turnpike Road. Jeffersontown isn't even shown, but it does show some of New Albany, IN and Jeffersonville, IN. I would love to find some other era maps of places near here.Comment

Ok here goes....
Fort Elstnor (unsure of exact name as the last 3 letters were unclear, but looked like NOR)- South of Brownsboro Turnpike Rd. NOW-Located at the end of N. Belaire Ave. Residential area.
Fort Engle- North side of Louisville & Lexington R.R. at the very end of Shelbyville Branch Turnpike. NOW-off Melwood Ave near R.R. at N. Spring St.
Fort Saunders- slightly Southeast of (era) Cave Hill Cemetery. NOW- Near where Highland Ave. and Budley St meet near edge of (present) Cave Hill Cemetery. Bulk of fort was just inside current cemetery boundry.
Battery camp- Off Newburg Turnpike & unnamed military road. NOW- Corner of Barrett Ave & Rufer Ave. Residential area.
Fort Hill- North off Newburg Turnpike. NOW- near intersection of Barrett Ave & Goddard Ave. at southern edge of St. Louis Cemetery.
Fort Horton- West of Shelby Street Rd & south of intersection of the road to Thomas Goss' residence (presently known as Goss Ave). NOW- area around Taylor Ct.
Fort McPherson - South of Catholic Cemetery off Shepherdsville Turnpike. NOW- Fort St and under I-65, just south of St. Stephen's Cemetery. (of all the forts this one is the only one that had a street sorta named after it)
