Does anyone have information on this Louisiana jacket on display at the Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans? Can anyone supply more detailed photos? Thank you.

    Re: Louisiana Jacket

That appears to be a display on the Crescent Regiment of Louisiana, also known as the 24th Louisiana Infantry, and Consolidated Crescent Regiment. They were formed in 1861, and I know of at least 3 different uniforms or jackets from that period, each in a different company. They fought at Shiloh and Corinth in the early war. Many of the original men were reassigned to various clerk and staff roles in the Trans-Mississippi, to the point of being disbanded, twice. A large infusion of Northwestern Louisiana they participated in the Red River Campaign. The officers seemed to enjoy being hosted at dinner parties, being refered to as the 'Famed Crescent Regiment'. They hold the distinction of being the only Louisiana regiment to loose all field officers in one day at the battle of Mansfield.
Well, that is what I have put together spending a few year obsessing over the unit. The jacket it self is more of a snapshot of a single company at a specific time period, in the early war.

      Re: Louisiana Jacket

Supplies bound for Louisiana, including new grey uniforms, we pirated by Florida. Thus the shortage forced Louisiana to issue regiments the blue uniforms captured from the US Arsenals. The Red River Campaign had every color, of which included white shell jackets made by the Huntsville Prison in Texas.
I had family in the 8th La Inf, 16th La Inf, 18th La Inf, 28th La Inf.
Here in his blue uniform is a photo of my direct ancestor Sgt Thomas M McNeely 18th La Inf.
