I bought a parts rifle last week and it had a Mississippi style barrel. It has no markings that I can see and wanted to see if anybody knew more about this. It is pitted and I guess a lightly stamped 1841 could lose all the markings quite easily. It is smooth bored but it mic's out real close to .54 so it looks like they just took out the rifling. It had no evidence of having a dovetail rear sight. The front sight is gone and replaced by a shotgun bead. There is no evidence of a bayonet stud either but I guess it should not be expected with a .54 barrel. It does look like the barrel was polished a long time ago and rust was removed. It has then re-rusted above the wood line. I have been lurking for a while on this forum trying to learn as much as I can. Searches did not turn up anything so I finally got around to registering and posting. Thanks in advance for any info.
