I am a bigtime visual learner and I LOVE to look at old maps and match historical ones to where they are on sites like Google Maps, Bing Maps, etc.
I recently found some great links to map overlays that have to do with our era and hoped others might have some links or sites of their own they would share as primary research for those of us curious enough to know on the spot in which they stand what was there before:
Washington DC, 1851: http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/gct000745b.html
New York, 1852: http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/g2620000.html
Chicago, 1857: http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/g0079001.html
United States, 1833: http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/g4609001.html
Western US, 1846: http://rumsey.geogarage.com/maps/g0534001.html
Dave Rumsey's Map Overlay link: http://www.davidrumsey.com/view/google-maps
Does anyone have similar sites or maps they can share and use this as a repository of information for these sites and links from our period?
Thanks- Johnny Lloyd
