  • "The Troop"

Article 28 of the 1861 regulations (https://books.google.com/books?id=GZ...page&q&f=false) talks about a call that they refer to as "the troop." I've tried looking around for what it is and what happens at that time, but have been unsuccessful. Can anyone help me out? Thank you.

    Re: "The Troop"

Per David Poulin's "Field Music of the Civil War" (excerpt attached) The Troop was played at guard mounting.

Howe's Fife & Drum Instruction for use of the Army and Navy, states "The Troop is played at _____ o'clock in the morning, for the purpose of assembling the men for duty, inspection at guard mounting and morning dress parade, when the commanding officer commands it." Music from Howe's is attached.
