Silk for Union Infantry Regimental Flag

Our Sons of Union Veterans camp would like to try to construct a Union infantry regimental flag, but we're having trouble finding dark blue silk in the correct width. So far we've been able to locate 60" wide silk, but that would obviously not be enough for a full size flag. On the other hand, I can't recall ever seeing a "seamed" or "pieced" regimental in a museum collection.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. BTW, although I greatly admire the work of DuPage Military Flags, I doubt that our camp would be able to raise $2,500+ in a reasonable amount of time to purchase one from him.
