Re: Identifying the Type of Tobacco

"We ate quite quite miserably at four, and afterwards I had the pleasure of smoking a pipeful of périque. Mrs. Buel had gone to her brother Alexander's house. He had given her some périque to prepare for him and she had brought me two or three little pieces, so I placed in my pipe a mixture, half périque and half Virginia tobacco. That made the pleasure last so long that I was able to have four pipefuls" - taken from "Exile in Richmond, The Confederate Journal of Henri Garidel"

If you've never read this book before, I highly recommend that you do. He is a pipe smoking fool and talks about this VERY frequently.

Re: Identifying the Type of Tobacco

Interesting thread....I was just wondering if using pipe tobacco made nowadays as the Kentucky Bird is accurate or not ? It is made with a blend of Virginia and rose flowers.......the smoke is sweet and the taste a litlle bit stronger than others but very pleasant.
If someone has got a label replica to share, I'm interested in !
