  • straps for enlisted men epaulettes

I have a question and hopefully someone out there can provide some insight. I am trying to replicate the uniform of my ancestor. I have a photo of my ancestor which helps, the challenge is - he was a 2nd Corporal, but in the photo I have of him he has a shoulder boards on his frock coat. I've since seen other photos of enlisted men with shoulder boards as well. Any idea of what the shoulder boards might have looked like, etc.? He was in the 52nd Georgia Volunteer Infantry out of White County GA. I posted this question on the Sons of Confederate Veterans facebook page and the answer that makes the most sense is that they are straps for enlisted men epaulettes. Thoughts?

Let's see the photo Barry. That will certainly help us stand a better chance of helping you figure this out.

That seems to be a bit of a problem. For whatever reason it will not load on here. I could email it to you.

Shoulder scales perhaps? Adopted from the old Regular Army frocks? That may be possible. I agree with Tyler, need to see a photo.
