Hello All,
For quite some time I have been working with a former professor of mine on a regimental for the 6th South Carolina Infantry. My task has been going through the microfilm, recording any and all pertinent information on each soldier. Obviously, when I come to an officer there are usually special requisition papers for gear clothing, etc. One special requisition form caught me off guard one day. It listed the typical so many pairs of pants (actually listed them as pants, not trousers, neat stuff), shirts, canteens, shoes, socks, and so on. The one thing that I could not make heads or tails of was castings. Fourth quarter requisition for one of the companies was 33 1/2 castings. What is a casting, what are they referring to? I have never heard or seen what a casting might be. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated. Attached, I have included a picture of that shows the document. It may be hard to see/read as it is a picture of a picture of an original document.
