Anyone know anything about soldiers camping on farm properties? I have a few boxes, 1858 mason jar canned foods, a few stoneware crocks and jugs me and a pal wanted to use some of them for our dog tent at a farmhouse living history coming up in Gettysburg. going with the idea that we would have either taken them or been provided if the folks would be so kind. I've read accounts of soldiers stealing food and household items such as crocks of molasses and pies, hogs, chickens, carpets, curtains, coverlets... if anyone has any primary sources or memoir bits on this stuff I would greatly appreciate research help on this topic.
