  • US Pioneers- 9th Corps

Question- did the Army of the Potomac ever have Pioneers who wore sleeve insignia like the western armies?

    Next question,
Does anyone know much about the 9th Corps when they went west in 1863/1864? I have a tintype of a soldier in the 9th Corps with the pioneer insignia, and am trying to narrow it down to a possible unit, or at least brigade.

    Thank you,

The pioneer insignia is from the US Army Regulations, so there is a very good chance they did.

1861 Regs, pg 487 describes the cross hatchet insignia.
