Re: Squire sharpshooters (1st batt Ohio sharpshooters)
If they're who I think they are, the battalion consisted of five companies: 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. The 1863 Ohio QMG report indicates that all five companies carried Spencer rifles. See Ohio. Executive Documents, 1863, part 2, page 612, in case this link doesn't work: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?...ew=1up;seq=618James Brenner

Re: Squire sharpshooters (1st batt Ohio sharpshooters)
Hallo!
I do not have it handy due to 95% of my references being boxed and stored for endless house remodelling...
A 19th century history of Cuyahoga County described them as being uniformed as per federal but with green "branch of service" color trim. Of course one cannot see green chevrons or NCO trouser stripes in B & W, but a surviving picture of the 7th ICOVSS ("Sherman's Bodyguard") does a good job of showing them in the field.

Re: Squire sharpshooters (1st batt Ohio sharpshooters)
Hallo!
Watson Squire helped organize the 7th ICOVSS in Cleveland, and was promoted captain November, 1862. But being a lawyer, he was pulled to serve as JAG on Rosecran's staff in May of 1864 being replaced in August 1864 by 1st Lt,. William McCrory.
The 7th was aka "Squire's Sharpshooters" and later when pulled as headquarters/personal guard for Sherman., as "Sherman's Bodyguard."
His descendants found his uniform in their attic, but it had been reduced to a pile of scraps and rags by moths.. so they saved just the buttons. The buttons were gifted to a former friend of mine.
