This is Benjamin Giggy, my g-g-great uncle. He joined the 44th Indiana Vol. Inf Co. H in 1864. He never saw any fighting but from what I understand he became Company Clerk. His brother John joined in 1861, wounded twice. Once at Shiloh in the Hornets Nest, and once at Stones River.
What I have always been interested about is his ring. It looks a little dark to be gold or silver, what could it be made of? Also, is it the lighting or does it look like there is a twist in the band? Is there any other examples from the era? Could it be social club or the like? Any help is appreciated.
