  • Makers of Militia Packs

    Hello all,
I've searched the forum, but have not had any luck in finding this information. For the pre-war "militia hard pack," is there any documentation or information as to who made these packs, either in large numbers for purchase or if they were made locally for individual companies?
Thank you for any information you can provide!

    Re: Makers of Militia Packs

In the South you had everything from small shops making knapsacks for their local volunteer company to huge outfits like Magee & George in New Orleans supplying tens of thousands of knapsacks. Just off the top of my head I have found various Mississippi companies sending off to places like Memphis, Natchez, or New Orleans to equip themselves with knapsacks and other gear. Some companies preferred to wait and let the state equip them.
