I'm seeking information on any identifying marks/stamps used on weapons that were repaired or altered at the arsenal in Columbus, Ms. The Briarfield (Brierfield) Arsenal repaired over 5,000 captured arms after Shiloh, also beginning in the fall of 1861 the arsenal was involved with the modification of shotguns and there have been references to conversions of Kentucky rifles and Hall rifles.
Any known inspector mark, alteration code, or a variant of an arsenal stamp would be of great assistance. Also, take a second and read the marker for this arsenal - was someone drinking that day?
