  • English Canteen & More...

    Gents,

Every once in a while I puruse the various relic dealers sites to see what's being offered. I was blown away to find a really nice English canteen with original paint on the link listed below. It even has the broad arrow and "WD" along with the date "1859" stamped below it. Also of interest on the site in their "on-line museum" section is the coat and jacket of an officer who served in the 1st SC Sharpshooters, later the 27th SCVI. Gary Hendershott had this jacket two years ago at the show in Charleston and the tailor's label really piqued my interest. Have a look at all of the offerings; I think you'll be suprised with some of the things they possess. Wish I had some cash...

**look under "Accoutrements" for the canteen

      Hey Lisa,

Since posting this I've done a good bit more research on blockade running, etc. Out of all the cargo manifests, I did find one shipment of canteens. While this is true, who knows if they actually made it through the blockade as the mainfests were made while being loaded in Bermuda. Hope you're well.
