  • Original 1861 Springfield rear sights; shape?

I have a run of the mill euro arms 1861 made a few years ago. It's rear sight notches were milled horrifically off center. It borders on bizarre. These notches were neat little semi circular cuts with an additional notch (A)

I ordered a replacement sight from somewhere, and its leaf notches were square cut, and rather wide. (B)

I went and ordered another sight from another supplier and these rear sight leafs only had the semi circular cut for a notch, but lacked the smaller notch at the bottom of the cut. (C)

Out of curiosity, I found a few pics of original 1861's and looked at their rear sights...

Was there a standard in sight design on the 1861’s? Was there variation among the contractors? Is any repro correct?

    Thanks

Course, here's a contract pattern made by Savage... this makes it all the more interesting.
