  • Hollyday Shirt Pictures Requested

I am working on a Hollyday shirt and was wondering if anyone had pictures of the original that they could post?

I am most interested in seeing close ups of the stitching in the collar and cuffs.

    Thanks.

Look on County Cloth, Chas. Childs sutler, he sells patterns for a hollyday shirt and i think he might have pictures up of originals, hes got really good stuff, pricey though.

Thanks for posting. I have already made a few Hollyday shirts using his pattern and directions. He does not include pictures of the original on his website or in his pattern packet.

I was primarily interested in seeing the details of the original to compare my work against it.

        Hey Matthew,

You might try the source for where Charlie found the original garment. Muesums and Historical Societies can sometimes be very helpful in this area. I have made the Louisiana shirt he offers, and was fortunate to find images in a few publications. However, nothing near close enough to compare stitching and really construction much. I think that shirt was worn by a Marylander.

        Good Luck,

You might want to get a copy of:

Kimmel, Ross M. "Maryland Private Henry Hollyday's Faded Confederate Uniform Holds Many Tales for the Attentive Observer." America's CW 13 (Jan 2001): p. 20, 22, & 78.

I can not recall if the uniform is housed in the Maryland State Historical Society Museum. You might want to contact them. I believe Mr. Kimmel is Supervisor of the Cultural Resources Mangement of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. You might want to contact him and he may be able to provide some further information. Just a thought!
