I am looking for any informationm on the use of the 1850 Rifleman's Belt in Union Service. I have been able to verify their issue to the 4th & 5th MN VI as well as (I believe) at least one Iowa Regiment. A CDV that I saw last weekend of the Iowa man (supposed) shows the man with an M1841 Rifle, 1850 Rifleman belt and what appears to be a standard 1841 or 1855 Cartridge Box. What I could not see or, more likely, decipher from the CDV was the cap pouch.
I have several questions that the search function has failed me on so help from some more experianced than I would be greatly appreciated.
1. Am I perhaps incorectly assuming that the cap pouch would be worn on the right front of his belt?
2. The belt appeared to be a touch wider than the standard so was there a special cap pouch for this belt?
3. How long did these weather on in the field before being replaced by what we might consider the standard set of accoutraments?
