  • Loyalist arms !847 Springfield Carbine

Since I was made aware of it, this reproduction has fascinated me. I was wondering has anyone here actually purchased one? I do not have access to the reproduction, or an original to compare it to so I have been comparing photos.
the best pictures of an original I have been able to find are at
    http://www.lodgewood.com/carbine%201847.htm and

Loyalist sent me the pictures I have attached below. In comparing the two the most noticeable differences are the length of the barrel past the forearm where the swivel ram rod attaches, the trigger, and the shape of the hammer spur having slightly more curve to it in the original. Also the trigger guard has a vestige of where the sling swivel would attach on an 1842. I expect Loyalist just didn't retool for the carbine.

Here is a link to their site.

Given these flaws, can anyone with a more experienced eye spot any other deficiencies? Are these inaccuracies any more obvious or harder to fix than the Italian reproductions we are so familiar with?

Re: Loyalist arms !847 Springfield Carbine

There are several visual issues with this version of the '47 Musketoon.

As pointed out the swivel is much too close to the front of the barrel -
also the swivel is too short and curves too much.

The front barrel band is also incorrect - for the Cavalry version of the
'47 Musketoon. While it is correctly brass mounted the shape of the
front band is closer to the front band of the Artillery or Sappers & Miners
version of the '47 Musketoon. On original Cavalry Musketoons the stock
also comes forward of the front band.

The front ("nose") of the lock is also too extended.

I have attached two images - from one of my original '47
      Cavalry Musketoons.

As in past cases, however, it is my understanding that Loyalist is aware
of these issues and is working to resolve/correct them for the 2nd
generation of their offering of this weapon.

P.S. there was a thread on the '47 from Loyalist about 14 - 18 weeks
ago but I do not know if it survived the crash.

I posted a similar statement over on Oz's about the '47. I really wish that it was a little better. The front barrel band and muzzle is my major issue. I posted that and got the reply from some other moron that he has seen many of tem like that, but I've yet to see an original with that barrel band. I would love to have one for the Confederate cavalry impression I want to do (after college when I can afford another horse).

I contacted Loyalist Arms a while back asking them about their current reproduction of the model 1847 Cavalry Musketoon. They told me that they were in the process of refining their reproduction to correct some featurs that were not correct. They said they are changing the front barrel band and swivel I recall. They have a few left of the current production they posted in their web site and offered a discount to me if I was interested in the remianing stock, or I could go on their contact list when the new ones were available. I told them to contact me when the new ones were avalable. Hopfully they corrected most obvious flaws. but with all repros, there is alsways something not quite right.

It woul dbe perfect here in AZ for a 1st Dragoons impression.
