  • cutdown/ altered Slouch hats

    All,
I seem to remember dorking around here before the great crash of '06, and taking in a thread about altered slouch hats. It consisted of several good accounts of doing so, and several photos of soldiers with slouches cut to look like Kepis and Caps. But alas, I believe the info has been lost in the crash!
So, I'm looking for any accounts, references, photos, letters, or original hats that have been altered in such a way as to look like caps. I'm sure the disscussion was centered around the AoT, but I could be mistaken. Western accounts would be great. I have just come up empty handed too many times, so hope yall can help a bruder out.

    Thanks....

    YOS,

    William,

I just ran across a photo on the LOC that shows a young servant among Federal officers wearing an altered Army hat that had a folded crown and a brim cut down to look like a cap visor. It might take a while to locate, but when I find it I'll post a link.

There was also a CDV of a Confederate prisoner at Camp Douglas on eBay about three years ago that wore a similarly altered hat. His appeared to be a short pillbox style crown but the brim was cut off complete except for in the front.

        Mr White,
I realy appreciate that man. Exactly one of the images I was looking for. I did come across another just yesterday of some AoT cats with the same thing done. I'll try to post later.
