    Knive Sheaths

    I recently bought a knife and am interested in trying my hand at making a sheath for it. Does anyone have pictures of any period sheaths? Even a period picture of someone with one would be awesome.

    You might try Don Smith. He has done a lot of research on California volunteers, who were required to be equipped with a sheath knife by Gen'l Carleton

      Hallo!

      What do you have in mind?
      The "homespun" or "primitive" type sheaths that a lad might have made or the commercial grade items such as those that came with imported Sheffield 'Bowie's " or American made belt'hunting knives?
      Etc, etc.,

        Hey Kevin,Look in echos or you you can go to the Atlanta History center as far as a picture goes.

            I agree with Curt, we need more information.

            For many images of commerical bowie sheaths, a good reference book is The Bowie Knife by Norm Flayderman. Very abbreviated answer for a PEC sheath for that type of knife: center seam leather sheath with metal chape and throat.
