When did the confederate troops start using leather belts instead of suspenders?

I wondering what year this became popular for an appropriate impression.

    thanks,

I believe Nate Petersburg made this popular about 2000 or 2001 so any time after that would be appropriate.

      Re: Leather waist Belts

The wearing of a belt around the waste to hold up trousers was a practice used by many men prior to the Civil War. The choice of wearing braces, instead of a belt was likely influenced by what the men wore before enlisting, and whether or not they wanted to go with that particualr fashion vogue for which they would have to purchase suspenders to hold up their trousers. (Suspenders were not an issue item, but had to be privately purchased).

There are many original images which show men wearing waste belts vice suspenders.

Theres no set time that they just up and decided to wear a belt instead of braces. Its more of just a personal prefrence. Anytime in your civil war impression would be appropriate for either braces or a belt. Heres the beauty of it...its your choice what you want to include in your impression! Try one, then try the other and find which works best for you!
