My Dear Nellie: The Civil War Letters of W.L. Nugent, p 183
"I have three pairs of drawers purchased from the government which have become al unsewn and hang very loosely about my person. They are about 2 sixes too large and are pefectly loose. I have remedied this defect by sewing a button rught under my arm on the wasitband; th'o I cannot even then fancy they fit. If I ever have another opportunity I will have my drawers made over again"
