  • EBay image - Confed in blanket shawl or coat?

    This caught my eye in a big way. I suspect the man is wearing a blanket merely as a shawl, but you be the judge:

    I agree with you. Blanket wore in place of a shawl. I love the hair style and the look of his face.

      Seriously - something funny about the blanket stripes - either those are shadows or they are made up of a dark and light stripe. Trick of the light?

        The stripes look to me like some kind of needle work. I mean they look raised and not just a different color.

          Looks almost like a Whipple cap to me.

          The blanket has stitching like a chennile bedspread.

            The cravat is the largest I have seen for the civil war, more like the size of an 1830 bow tie with 1860 styling. I will have to make myself one. The stripes on the blanket look to me to be woven in stripes of light and dark color expanding in size as they get near the end giving the illusion of raised ridges.
