  • looking for a photo

I seem to remember a long while ago someone posted a photo of an infantry regiment loitering in camp. I think they were CS, but I'm not sure. In the photo the regiments muskets are stacked and you can clearly see enfield friction slings on them.

I've use the search function to no avail.

Anyone have or know of the photo I'm refering too.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Re: looking for a photo

According to the recent book British Accoutrements 1750-1900, by Pierre Turner, the Enfield loose leather thong tied friction sling dates from November 1871. Most other experts on the subject have come to the same conclusion. There are a number of "experts" on British accoutrements that would like very much to see a Civil War-era photo showing those slings in use if you come up with it. Me too, I have never been able to locate one of those slings in a period photo, at least where the details could be clearly made out.

There are however a great many period photos of British accoutrements where buckle slings can be clearly made out.
