  • Western State Shell Jacket

I was wandering what the provenance is for the western state shell jacket was as far as the time periods they were issued in. Were they more early, mid, or late war? Just wandering.

    Re: Western State Shell Jacket

Which specific jacket are you referring to??? There were many variations of shells which saw service in the Trans-Mississippi and AOT (Columbus, Houston, Mobil, Penitentiary, Atlanta, just to name a few)...Could you be more specific? Best regards, Tom

So sorry, I was referring to the federal Ohio/ Indiana Shell, but Mr. O'bierne's link answered most of my questions. Thank you.

            Re: Western State Shell Jacket

Although that is a good little read, it is mostly pertaining to artillery/cavalry issue jackets. This link will go a little deeper into the style of jackets found on infantry.
