  • Haversack contractor info

I am hoping some one on here can help me with information on a federal contractor. Recently I got to view an original haversack in a local museum and I am looking for more information on the maker William Mintzer from Philadelphia. I have attached an image for reference and interest. If any one has any info I would be very much obliged.

      Re: Haversack contractor info

Bruce Bazelon and William McGuinn's 1999 "A Directory of American Mil Goods, Dealers & Makers, 1785-1915" (Combined Edition) lists Mintzer as a fairly prolific producer of mil and mil-related (fraternal, and the like) materiel, buttons, etc., who flourished during the War, only to die in late-1869, with business sold to R.M. Robinson and later to Clarence A. Hart. Carried on business started by father Peter in 1818. Some other details are included. (Page 191.)
