I am in the midst to tracking down more information on the Original Uniform of 24th Virginia Company C. They are mentioned as mustering in wearing "green jackets." I have just begun my research so I am only speculating as to the appearance and would appreciate any and all thoughts.
1 If I take the author of the regimental history at his word the Carroll Boys are wearing a 1858 type Shell jacket, Militia Roundabout, OR a civilian equivalent.
2 the shade of Green is even more speculative I would presume a dark grey-green to black green. However I need to find what dyes would have been widely in Southwest Virginia. Woad could have been brought into the area, but I' sure some one knows better than I.
3 The material used eludes me, either the cloth was purchased for use by the militia or homespun.
Regards
