    Justification: The men have to cut their own wood and the axes on hand are worn out. We need the shovels and spades for policing the camp.

      Thanks Greg! GREAT stuff.

      I notice they were issued English shoes too at one point. Would these by the blutcher type shoes? Anyone?

      Neill: Thank you for pointing out about the hemp jean not being used in SC. It's all very interesting stuff! Your help with SC frock details is very helpful, and much appreciated.

        I'll post the answer to your PM here just in case someone else is looking for the same info. It is:

        Brassy's History of Uniforms: American Civil War Confederate Army
        by Ron Field; copyright 1998 Brassy's (UK) LTD. ISBN 1-85753-218-X

        Not sure exactly how accurate it is. You can find it I think at Amazon, Borders, and maybe on Ebay cheap too (?). Hope that helps!
