  • 1855 Button card.

    It was just brought to my attention that this image disappeared from an older thread.

    It is a sales sample from Weil Brothers in Goldsboro NC, CA 1855. Private collection

    Here is a (bad) translation in my Down-East North Carolina French.

    Rouge plein
    Noirs… black
    Biseau… bevel
    Perles… bead
    Cuvette… basin
    Bourrelets…pads
    2 Trous … 2 hole
    Minerals… mineral
    Band de Coul …

    Fil coul… wire (?)

    The 2 hole, numbers 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 are well, channel or deep channel buttons.
