'firemans shirt' legit usage or not?

Hi guys trying to figure out if the 'fireman's' shirt pattern is something that was actually worn by confederate field soldiers even as a 'homespun' type shirt. If you're having trouble picturing what I'm talking about, think about a double breasted looking shirt with a 'bib' that buttons on both sides and at the collar. Thanks for the info.
