Hello,
I am a theatre professor currently researching the theatrical events which took place at the Johnson's Island Prison Camp outside of Sandusky, OH, predominantly during 1863-1864 by two groups who called themselves the Rebel Thespians and the Rebellonians.
I have examined primary sources at the Confederate Museum and the Library of Virginia, and am in contact with the Texas Confederate Museum Collection and the Johnson's Island Historical Society.
However, I am looking for any additional information that anyone might have on these groups, prison life for this particular camp and the men who were involved in the production of these peices (including but not limited to George McKnight, aka Asa Hartz, Lt. AJ Peeler of Florida, and Capt. Thomas D. Houston). Also, any information pertaining to similar theatrical events in other prison camps (either federal or confederate) would be helpful. As this will hopefully be culminating in a published essay in a book on theatrical events during and around the time of the American Civil War, I do need all information to be documented. You can either post to this thread or e-mail me directly at jennaneilsen@adams.edu.
Thanks in advance!
