I wish I could find 'em. On this the anniversary of the Battle of the Crater, I'm wondering what exists as far as letters and whatnot from the "diggin' 48th". I've read Mike Cavanaugh and Bill Marvel's "Horrid Pit". Also Jim Corrigan's treatment of the subject. Plus, several other "smaller" accounts. In "The Horrid Pit" Cavanaugh displays a IX Corps badge made of clay from "the tunnel". Any 48th stuff on display in any musuems to speak of. What of their regimental colors? Any and all replies appreciated.

What about the other end of the tunnel? Lets not be partisan and include the 18th & 22 SC.;)Jim Mayo

Re: 48th PA Letters & Souviners
Here is another goodie. The ID badge of Francis Allebach. Commission 2nd Lt on October 30, 1864. He served in Porter’s company I., 48th Pennsylvania Infantry. This badge was found at Ft. Hell in Petersburg.
This is one of the prettiest corps / ID badges I have ever seen.Jim Mayo
