Re: Lincoln Letter to war mother found
Ah,
That makes sense. Couldn't discern the transparent sleeve in the story -- interesting point about not using cloth gloves in favor of clean fingers. Now I can stop cringing when the appraisers on Antiques Road Show are flipping through soldier's diaries, CDVs and the like with bare hands.
Would latex gloves introduce chemicals to linen paper or vellum (sp)? I remember my grandparents insisting we wear white gloves when turning pages in the Boegli family Bible, one of first done with moveable type.
That's what I like about this forum -- you learn something every day!
Thanks.

On a side note - when the Sam Davis Home was shooting the film for their visitor center I played one of Coleman's scouts. I was handed a hand written note on camera and proceeded to stuff it in my coat only to be told "Be carefull ! That's an original !"John Duffer
