Will be interesting to see how it unfolds. In the meantime, why no white gloves on the supposed expert as he holds what may turn out to be a valuable document?
    Just wondering.

      Because it’s encapsulated.

Also when handling with paper documents you rarely use gloves; you're more likely to damage the document because you can't feel when the paper's tearing, etc. The best way to handle these objects is to just wash your hands EXTREMELY well to get all the oils off of your hands and then just handle them with your hands.

          Ah,
That makes sense. Couldn't discern the transparent sleeve in the story -- interesting point about not using cloth gloves in favor of clean fingers. Now I can stop cringing when the appraisers on Antiques Road Show are flipping through soldier's diaries, CDVs and the like with bare hands.

Would latex gloves introduce chemicals to linen paper or vellum (sp)? I remember my grandparents insisting we wear white gloves when turning pages in the Boegli family Bible, one of first done with moveable type.

That's what I like about this forum -- you learn something every day!

          Thanks.

On a side note - when the Sam Davis Home was shooting the film for their visitor center I played one of Coleman's scouts. I was handed a hand written note on camera and proceeded to stuff it in my coat only to be told "Be carefull ! That's an original !"
