I am in search of any detailed books, articles, or even primary accounts of rank and file Confederates about their journeys home after receiving their paroles.
I am not so much interested in the surrender and oath ceremonies, etc as I am in the different trials and tribulations faced by Confederate soldiers trying to make it home through a South in drastic time of change and hardship.
Any worthy reading suggested will be much appreciated.
