Sunday is West Virginia Day. Along with the usual ceremonies and speeches at WV Independence Hall in downtown Wheeling, there are several CW-related items and events for your consideration should you be passing through the area:
The flag exhibit at WVIH will be open and is, as always, free to view.
Cockayne House in Moundsville will be open for tours. There will be a charge to see the house, which was, in antebellum Virginia, the headquarters of a very large merino sheep breeding farm. The gatekeeper's house, which is now the conservator's office, will be open with some artifacts displayed. Only another historian would appreciate this year's big attraction: the privy is being excavated during the event.
The small CW collection at the Marshall County Historical Society will be on display.
The Roseby's Rock area will also be host to several events. At least one prewar home will host tours.
There are numerous other vebnues, not all of which have a CW connection. If anyone needs details on those or on any of these, I'll be glad to run them down for you.
